Camping with kids: our top tips for a stress free trip
As avid followers of the brilliant Ramble Family (click here to be inspired by this family who prove that having young children doesn’t mean giving up on adventure!), we know that camping with little ones can feel daunting. Since having our own, we’ve embraced the chaos and taken her on as many outdoor adventures as possible. Along the way, we’ve discovered a few essential bits of kit—and learned from a fair few mistakes!
The good news? Camping with kids doesn’t have to be stressful. At Livit Glamping, the tents are already set up, dry, and cozy, plus you’ll have extra boot space since there’s no need to bring your own. With a little planning (and a lot of snacks!), camping with young children can be an amazing, memory-filled experience. Here are our top tips to make it as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
1. Choose a Family-Friendly Campsite (Did Someone Say Livit?)
Picking the right campsite makes all the difference. At Livit Glamping, there’s plenty of space for little ones to run around, kick a football, or lie in the grass watching the clouds. Low traffic movement on-site means they can explore safely, and our 10pm quiet-time curfew ensures peaceful nights for everyone. A relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere is key to making camping with kids enjoyable—and getting a good night’s sleep!
2. Keep Sleep Setups as Familiar as Possible
A good night’s sleep is essential for happy campers (and happy parents!). Keeping bedtime routines as close to home as possible can make the transition easier. At Livit Glamping, we can provide travel cots for babies or extra camp beds for older children—just let us know in advance.
Bringing a favorite cuddly toy, blanket, or bedtime book (we highly recommend The Gruffalo, though other books do exist… allegedly!) helps create a comforting, familiar sleep space. Little touches like these can work wonders in soothing little ones amidst the excitement of camping.
3. Get Them Involved
Camping is all about embracing the outdoors and spending quality time together. Involving kids in small tasks—like passing the hot chocolate, setting up chairs for marshmallow toasting, or helping gather firewood—makes them feel part of the adventure. Plus, it tires them out nicely for bedtime!
4. Pack More Than You Think You’ll Need
Planning a two-night trip? Pack as if it’s four! Kids will be rolling in the grass, splashing in the sea, and inevitably spilling hot chocolate down their jackets. Extra clothes, layers, and waterproofs will save you from last-minute wardrobe disasters.
These simple tips have transformed our own camping experiences and made every trip with our little one something to look forward to. Camping as a family isn’t about perfection—it’s about embracing the adventure, making memories, and enjoying the fresh air together.
If you have any questions before booking your Livit Glamping stay, just let us know. We’re here to make your trip as seamless and stress-free as possible—especially if you’re bringing the kids. We get it.
See you there,
