Walking the South West Coast Path

We’ve been walking the coast path as part of our multi-activity adventures for a few years now and it’s been super popular. For 2020 we have decided to run some of our adventures dedicated entirely to walking. A great activity for everyone and all abilities, it is a truly stunning experience. 

We are fortunate to be minutes walk from the world famous South West Coast Path, as a result we can start the route from our front door. We enter the coast path at Greencliff, 2 miles from WestwardHo! By the end of the 2 days the aim is to finish at Hartland Point (approx 20 miles total/10 miles per day). This will be 2 days of fully guided walking. Depending on enthusiasm and or ability we can easily shorten or lengthen each day if required.

We have our own bus which will pick us up at the end of day one and take us back to the Livit base camp where you can shower, freshen up and enjoy your freshly prepared evening meal before hitting the hay for some well earned rest in our beautiful bell tents. After breakfast on day 2 we will be dropped back where we left off to commence the next section. Once we complete the walk the bus will pick us up and take us back to camp. 

The South West Coast Path is England’s longest way-marked long-distance footpath and a National Trail. It stretches for 630 miles, running from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

Since it rises and falls with every river mouth, it is also one of the more challenging trails. It has been voted ‘Britain’s Best Walking route’ twice in a row by the readers of the Ramblers Walk magazine and regularly features in lists of the world’s best walks.

You will start your walk early in the morning after breakfast, you will need to be equipped with good walking shoes or trainers and a water supply and of course, don’t forget your camera.

The route we aim to walk will start from Greencliff (we have the option of starting from Westward Ho! if requested). From us the path follows the coast around Clovelly Bay where there are several small villages including Abbotsham. The path passes the site of the Iron Age Hill fort at Peppercombe Castle and the village of Bucks Mills. Clovelly itself is a historic village with a small natural harbour. The path continues past the site of the Iron Age Hill fort at Windbury Head to Hartland Point. Hartland Point features a lighthouse and radar tower and marks the western limit (on the English side) of the Bristol Channel with the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The island of Lundy, is visible from our campsite and also from many points along the path between Westward Ho! and the Cornish border.

This is an intimate weekend of just 10 guests maximum- although the staff do join in the trip too. Everyone working here at Livit Adventures is a coach in one or more activity, the breakfast chef could well be your walking guide! Whether you are a solo adventurer, a couple, or in a group you will find our trips to be totally inclusive and super friendly.

Sleeping bags/bedding

Accommodation is based at the Livit Camp, situated on a rural campsite near Abbotsham. We have tipi & bell tents with individual pods that sleep two-four people. A comfortable camp bed is provided, you just need to bring your own bedding.

We have a fully functional on site camp kitchen complete with our own wood fired pizza oven! All meals are freshly prepared by us. All meals are provided inclusive in your holiday. The camp kitchen has facilities for  teas and coffee anytime.

The cost of the weekend covers everything- food, accommodation, guided walks and transport whilst with us- (you just need to get here and home again after!).

Activities we include in this trip: guided coast-path/lowland walks.

Due to the nature of the coast path, the safety and suitability is subject to weather conditions and in circumstances of extreme/unsuitable weather, an alternative option will be provided (Exmoor or Dartmoor are our back up destinations- routes will be decided weather pending).

Walking is a high intensity activity and a minimum level of fitness is required and although we absolutely welcome beginners, individual ability cannot be guaranteed.

Meals

We know how much energy is required for these activities so we aim to keep you well fed with freshly prepared, tasty meals each day.

Vegetarian, Paleo, Celiac, or any allergies… no problem. Give us a heads up and we can cater for your needs.

We all know this is the most important meal of the day. What you eat here will set you up nicely for the morning activity.

We will serve the following:

  • Bacon/sausage/egg sarnies
  • Kev’s famous pancakes
  • A selection of fruits, yogurt, muesli and cereals
  • Bread with condiments
  • Tea, coffee and juice
Lunch will be eaten on location after your morning activity. We will have prepared a packed lunch at breakfast time which you will carry with you. We will vary the items each day.

You will also have a drink provided and other packed lunch goodies to build your strength for the afternoon activity.

The evening meal will be served back at the Livit Camp. Finally, when everyone is showered and relaxed you can feast again!

Evening meal examples:

  • BBQ with all the trimmings, salads, meat and veggie options
  • Pizza from our very own wood fired pizza oven!
  • The Livit three bean chilli with rice, guacamole, salsa, and corn chips
  • Thai green curry with chicken or vegetables

Fun large tipi & bell tents for sleeping and relaxing

The Tipis & Bells

Our tipi & bell tents are great! We have 5 bedroom tents each with internal room dividers (pods), although each tent is big enough for 10 people, we like our space, so each will sleep 2-4 people.

Camping beds will be provided but please bring your own bedding and sleeping bags. Please note you may be sharing with someone you don’t know yet if you are flying solo or in an odd numbered group. We will keep groups together as best we can.

The Lounge: A large communal bell tent; this one has a log burner and is perfectly set up for getting to know each other, relaxing, and after day one…talking about how your day went!

Our prospector tent is the place where we serve the food and sit down for the meals.
