Meet Bilbo, he’s a 12-year-old Mercedes Vario 614d minibus. Bilbo used to be a community transport bus in Bakewell (Peak District, UK)
We purchased our Bilbo after he finished his service and we brought him back to Devon to carry out some remodeling work.
We had to do quite a lot of work on the body, treating rust and respraying the back section. We also removed the tail-lift to reduce weight.
To ensure we could transport all of our equipment we had a bespoke roof basket made. We took Bilbo back up north near Blackpool to get the basket fitted, it’s made of galvanised steel by a specialist roof rack company,
On the inside, we took some of the seats out and made space for the kitchen and storage units.
To make a fully functional kitchen for when we are on the road we installed a sink, a hob unit, and a fridge. The kitchen worktop is made from a reclaimed piece of American white oak. We cladded the units with reclaimed pallet wood and driftwood we collected from the beach.
