We absolutely love North Devon. We live just a few miles from the coast and that means miles of fantastic beaches, coastal walks and many other opportunities to explore the countryside.

You can’t say you know what the North Devon lifestyle is all about until you’ve live or at least visited here. The fresh air, the laid back atmosphere – everything adds up to a very different type of lifestyle with a mixture of countryside and beach life. Here’s a few of our favourite places in the area. We’ll continue to add to this list as we grow to find more hidden gems in the area.

Westward Ho!

The only town with an exclamation mark in its name, Westward Ho! is named after a book of the same name by Charles Kingsley. The beach is beautiful – it’s one of our favourites for surfing and other watersports. This seaside town is just a few miles from our camp and a fantastic beach to explore when staying in the area.

Hartland is a few miles down the coast from us where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bristol Channel. You’ll have a chance to see the lighthouse, visit the local pub and, if you like, enjoy the coastal walks along the cliff to enjoy the stunning views.

This is one of the last private villages in England. With a small fee to enter the town it has become a popular tourist destination. The steep cobbled streets are a challenge to get up and down but take advantage of the Landrover up and down the hill and your feet can take a rest!

With the River Torridge flowing through it is one of the more peaceful port towns to enjoy on a trip to the area. Known as the Little White Town because of it’s rows of white washed buildings it has a vast history to be explored.

Another riverside town on the River Taw this hub on North Devon is expanding faster than ever. With lots of independent shopping available and now a variety of sports to try such as tennis, kayaking and paddleboarding.

Another location of fantastic beach and another tourist hot spot. Found on a different part of the North Devon coastline you can’t imagine the difference between the east and west.

Westward Ho! Beach

The beach at Westward Ho! is the perfect place to practice a quiet sunrise or sunset yoga session. The 1.5mile stretch of beach will mean you are guaranteed to find a quiet spot during low tide. Practice yoga with the natural sound of waves at your feet.

Saunton Sands

Another fantastic beach, the 3 miles of golden sands offer plenty of options for your yoga spot. Avoid it during the busy times of day and you’re sure to find a peaceful space to practice your downward dog or child’s pose.

Northam Burrows

One of the more natural spaces in North Devon, the burrows offer a peaceful green space to enjoy your yoga session outdoors.

Braunton Burrows

Braunton Burrows, is one of the largest sand dune systems in the country and offers swathes of space for taking up yoga in the great outdoors. Find a sand dune overlooking the ocean for a natural yoga session.

Local parks

Within a short distance from the Livit Adventures campsite you can find a fantastic selection of local parks and green spaces. Victoria Park in Bideford offers wide open grass to enjoy a spot of yoga, Rock Park, Pilton Park, Castle Mound along with others are just a short drive to Barnstaple and all offer a variety of outdoors spaces to practice your poses.

Abbotsham Cliffs

Once the route of the cliffside railway, the walkway along Abbotsham Cliffs overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and offers a peaceful and beautiful spot to take on some outdoor yoga.

Valley of the Rocks

The beauty of this area is something you won’t find anywhere else. Running parallel to the sea the valley is known for the goats that roam freely and so what better chance will you have for a spot of goat yoga!

If you’re a yoga lover you will love our yoga activity camps – join a trip with a small group of others looking for a true yoga adventure.

So you’ve been signed up as chief bridesmaid, maid of honour or bridesmaid and you’re in charge of planning the hen do. Where do you even start with an event like this? ‘The last night of freedom’, there’s a lot of pressure on throwing a night or trip to remember, both for the bride but also all the gals in tow too!

Well first things first you need to think of something that matches your bride. It’s no good throwing a wild, boozy, party weekend if your lady of honour is more one for crafting and spa days. To help you out we’ve put together a few ideas of the top hen do activities you can do in North Devon whilst staying with Livit Adventures.

Surfing weekend

Livit Adventures, Adventures Weekends, Devon holidays

If you don’t live near the coast (or even if you do), your bride may have never tried surfing or bodyboarding. Our activity sessions allow for all abilities so whether you are new to the waves or a pro surfer our organised trips can offer something for everyone.

Yoga retreat

Much more about wellness and meditation than a frantic wild weekend. Grab the gals, relax in our bell tents and take part in a range of yoga sessions – whether a sunrise or sunset special or yoga whilst overlooking the ocean, there’s something for whatever your bride-to-be wants!

If you have a bride who’s daring and lives for adrenaline, a wakeboarding session is definitely the way to go! Fast paced, active and filled with laughter and activity you can’t beat a session on the water at our local wake park.

Coastal walking escape

The coastline of North Devon offers the most amazing views over the big blue and beyond. We can map out your trail and take your group around on a planned route, or we can set the route and send you off on your way. The South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail on our doorstep have many fantastic places to walk and enjoy the scenery.

Movie nights

If your bride-to-be loves films why not plan a private movie night for the gals? In our local town you can hire out the local cinema for private events so why not dress up, hit the red carpet for your film before coming back to your pre-pitched campsite to watch nature’s movie – the night sky.

Farm life

Farm Glamping - Livit Adventures and Glamping

You can’t picture the bride-to-be in her white dress and heels wanting to wander around a working farm, but this is the hen do! Livit Adventures is situated on a working farm so if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like living on a farm we are the place to visit!

Stand Up Paddleboarding

A more chilled out water based activity might be just what your group ordered. Take to the water on a board and paddle around while putting the world to rights with your gals by your side.

Stand Up Paddleboarding Yoga

Yes, you read that right!! Combining two relaxing activities in one, hit the water and take a yoga session with a difference!
